Brimbank Land on Chopping Block

ALMOST 700 residents have made submissions to the Brimbank Council on its proposal to put up 14 pieces of land for sale.
At a meeting on May 17 a report was tabled identifying the land proposed for sale.
Submissions closed yesterday for the first seven - in Sydenham, Keilor, Taylors Lakes and West Sunshine - to go under the microscope.
The properties were identified as areas with open spaces nearby with the council saying sale proceeds would go into improving other parks.
But the move outraged some residents.

DOTTED with wattle gums and lilly pilly trees and with a simple swing set at its heart, a large block of open space on Patterson Avenue in Keilor is a treasured park for local residents.

It's a modest patch of green where they can get fresh air, let their children play and spot the occasional rosella or cockatoo.

But those residents fear their small suburban park will soon be built on, as administrators at the City of Brimbank propose to sell the parcel of land and 13 other open spaces in the city to developers.
